The Computer Discipline of Nanjing University originated from the Department of Mathematics of Nanjing University with a long history. Computer teaching and research began in the 1950s. In 1958, the major of Computing Technology was established. The Department of Computer Science of Nanjing University was established in 1978 based on computing technology, computational mathematics, and mathematical logic, which was renamed the Department of Computer Science and Technology of Nanjing University in 1993. For more than half a century, several generations of computer scientists in Nanjing University have been adhering to the fine traditions, constantly pioneering and innovating, and have made remarkable achievements in discipline construction, talent cultivation, scientific research, and international exchanges.
Under the leadership of the older generation of academic leaders and party leaders represented by Professor Xu Jiafu, winner of the Lifetime Achievement Award of the China Computer Federation, and Professor Sun Zhongxiu, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Nanjing University's computer science has made brilliant achievements in history. For example, in the 1960s, it successfully debugged the first computer in a university-affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education, and realized the first high-level language compilation system inChina; in the 1970s, it presided over the domestic DJS-210 medium-sized computer, XCY general system program design language, XT-1 operating system, and other software systems; in the 1980s, developed the first domestic distributed system ZCZ, the first domestic parallel inference system NDPIS combining software and hardware, etc. In 1981, the earliest doctoral authorization unit of Computer Software and Theory was established in China, and the first doctor of computer software in mainland China was trained here. In 1987, it was approved to establish a postdoctoral mobile station of Computer Science and Technology, and in 1988, Computer Software and Theory was selected as one of the first national key disciplines. In 1992, Computer Application Technology was approved as a doctoral degree authorization unit, and in 1998, it was approved to establish a doctoral degree authorization unit for the first-level discipline of Computer Science and Technology. The State Key Laboratory for Novel Software Technology passed an expert evaluation in 1986 and was opened in 1990. It has laid a solid foundation for further development.
Since the beginning of the new century, under the leadership of a new generation of academic leaders represented by Professor Lyu Jian, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Professor Zhou Zhi-Hua, a foreign academician of the European Academy of Sciences, and academic leaders and party leaders, Nanjing University's Computer Discipline construction has entered a period of rapid development. In 2002, "Computer Software and Theory" was once again rated as a national key discipline, "Computer Application Technology" was selected as a key discipline in Jiangsu Province, and Computer Software and Application combined with two second-level disciplines became the top 11 "high priority" disciplines selected by all disciplines in Jiangsu Province. In 2007, "Computer Application Technology" was selected as a national key discipline, and "Computer Science and Technology" became the first batch of national first-level key disciplines. In 2011, it was approved as a first-level doctoral authorization unit of "Software Engineering" discipline, and in 2012, it was selected as a first-level key discipline of "Software Engineering" in Jiangsu Province. In 2015, it was approved as a first-level doctoral authorization point of "Cyberspace Security", and in 2016, it was selected as a "Cyberspace Security" first-level key discipline in Jiangsu Province. The two first-level disciplines, "Computer Science and Technology" and "Software Engineering", independently supported by this discipline were rated as Class A disciplines in the fourth national first-level discipline evaluation, and they are the only two disciplines of the same class subject in Jiangsu Province. In 2018, it was selected as a national double first-class discipline. In 2007, 2012, and 2017, the State Key Laboratory for Novel Software Technology was rated as an Excellent State Key Laboratory and ranked first in the national computer field three consecutive times.
After years of development, the Computer Discipline of Nanjing University has established a high-quality teaching team with strong teamwork. . There are currently 44 professors and 34 associate professors, including academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, academicians of the Academy Europaea, fellow of ACM/AAAI/AAAS/IEEE/IAPR, ACM Distinguished Scientists, 3 Distinguished Professors of the "Changjiang Scholars" of the Ministry of Education, and 6 winners of the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, 2 winners of the first and second levels of the National Hundred and Thousand and Ten-Thousand Talent Project, 3 winners of the National Outstanding Youth Science Fund, 5 young candidates, and 2 winners of the National Top 100 Excellent Doctoral Theses, 17 winners of the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in Ministry of Education=, 1 winner of the Ho Leung Ho Lee Award for Science and Technology Progress, 2 winners of the China Youth Science and Technology Award, 1 winner of the Outstanding Educational Contribution Award of the China Computer Federation, and 2 winners of Youth Scientist Award, 1 winner of PAKDD Distinguished Contribution Award, 1 winner of IEEE Data Mining Outstanding Service Award, 1 winner of IEEE Computational Intelligence Society Outstanding Youth Achievement Award, 9 winners of Zhongchuang Software Talents Award, 5 scholars of China Computer Federation , 1 member of the first batch of Chinese Association for Artificial Intelligence, etc. Many people have served as members of the National 973 Program Information Consulting Expert Group, members of the "Kernal High Base" Major Special Project General Expert Group, members of the National Natural Science Foundation of China Informatics Department Expert Advisory Committee members, members of the State Council Disciplinary Evaluation Group, and served as the vice chairman of the China Computer Federation and Directors of 4 professional committees. The Internet-oriented software method and technology research innovation group of the National Natural Science Foundation of China led by Academician Lyu Jian is the second group in the field of information science in China to complete the third round of rolling.
This discipline has established the National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center of Computer Science Technology and Software Engineering of Nanjing University, the Computer Science Talent Training Base of the Ministry of Education's Training Plan of the Basic Subject Top-Notch Talents, and the National Innovation Experimental Area of National Talent Training Model for Software Engineering of Nanjing University. The Department of Computer Science and Technology has established a complete talent training system from undergraduates, master students, and doctoral students to postdocs, and at the same time cultivates professional degree masters in the field of computer technology and software engineering. At present, there are more than 1,700 students of various types, including 962 postgraduates and 814 undergraduates. There is also a special university computer basic teaching department to undertake the teaching tasks of computer basic public courses in the whole school. This discipline attaches great importance to teaching and personnel training. Since the new century, it has won 1 special prize and 5 prizes for national teaching achievements, 3 special prizes and 1 first prize for teaching achievements in Jiangsu Province, and has written a series of excellent teaching materials. Two of them won the first prize for excellent teaching materials from the Ministry of Education. It has cultivated 3 National Top 100 Excellent Doctoral Theses, 8 Excellent Doctoral Theses in Jiangsu Province, and 11 Excellent Doctoral Theses in China Computer Federation. This discipline is one of the two units in China that has consistently produced Excellent Doctoral Theses in China Computer Federation over the past ten years. The undergraduate major of "Software Engineering" was selected as a brand major in Jiangsu Province. Professor Chen Daozhu, the winner of the first Outstanding Educational Contribution Award of the China Computer Federation, presided over the professional certification of engineering education in China and contributed to China's eventual becoming a full member of the "Washington Agreement" in 2016, which is known as "a milestone in the development of Chinese higher education". Students at the school have repeatedly won good results in student science and technology competitions, such as the Gold Award in the Challenge Cup National University Student Entrepreneurship Plan Competition, the Gold Award in the Finals of the Chinese University Student Programming Competition, and the Special Prize in the National Finals of the National University Internet of Things Application Innovation Competition. Since the establishment of the department, more than 9,000 graduates have been trained. Most of them are working hard in the construction of the motherland and are generally praised by employers.
In the past 40 years since the establishment of the department, the discipline has undertaken the national "973" plan, "863" plan, Core-high-infrastructure major projects, national key research and development plans, the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, the National Natural Science Foundation of China, provincial ministries and commissions, international cooperation, and corporate More than 750 collaborative projects, etc., and it won 81 national, provincial and ministerial awards, and published 51 books. The current main research directions include new programming and software methodology, machine learning and intelligent information processing, software quality assurance and automation, distributed computing and system security technology, and media computing and content processing technology. In the past ten years, this discipline has made new progress in scientific research, and has published in important journals such as AIJ, JMLR, JSAC, TIFS, TIP, TIT, TKDE, TMC, TOC, TOG, TON, TOSEM, TPAMI, TPDS, TSE, TVCG , "Sciences in China" and other important international conferences such as AAAI, ACL, ACM MM, ASE, CCS, CVPR, FSE, ICCV, ICML, ICSE, IJCAI, INFOCOM, ISCA, FOCS, MobiCom, KDD, NIPS, OOPSLA, RTSS, SIGIR, UbiComp, VLDB, WWW, etc. have published more than 2,400 papers, including more than 300 papers in CCF-A category and more than 500 papers in CCF-B category; more than 30 papers have won awards in international conferences, such as in CCF-A category. At the OOPSLA conference, the department won the Best Paper Award for the first time as a domestic unit, and the ACM SIGSOFT Outstanding Paper Award at ICSE; the department won 1 second prize of the National Natural Science Award, 2 second prizes of the Science and Technology Progress, 6 provincial and ministerial first prizes, 3 second prizes; "Network Architecture Software Theory, Methods and Technology" completed by Professor Lyu Jian and Peking University was selected as one of the top ten scientific and technological advances in universities by the Ministry of Education; Professor Zhou Zhi-Hua's team has achieved a series of original achievements in the field of artificial intelligence and has grown into an internationally renowned research team. The discipline also actively broadens the application and transformation channels of scientific and technological achievements. Through cooperation with enterprises and other means, it has made good progress in promoting the construction of national informatization and the development of the software industry and has achieved good economic and social benefits.
The discipline attaches great importance to academic exchanges at home and abroad. Through strong alliances with domestic famous universities and research institutes, continuous project cooperation and academic exchanges are carried out to promote and promote the development of various computer undertakings in China; through organizing and participating in the seventh framework of the European Union, the Newton Research Cooperation Project of the UK Royal Academy of Engineeringand other international Major scientific research plans, the discipline has increased the participation in major international research projects, and drive the construction of international cooperative research bases and platforms. Promoted by the “Computer Software Novel Technology Intelligence Base” established by Project 111, supported by Nanjing University-Imperial College Machine Learning Joint Center, Sino-German Institute of Social Computing, Nanjing University HPI Research Institute, etc., the department has established an international network with researchers from the United States, British, Germany, France, Japan, Canada, Switzerland, Lsrael, Australia, etc. to promote substantive international cooperation and exchanges to lay the foundation. By taking the lead in establishing the Software Novel Technology and Industrialization Collaborative Innovation Center in Jiangsu Province, a collaborative innovation platform, technological innovation system, talent training, and the service system superimposes new development momentum for the development of Jiangsu's software industry. In recent years, Turing Award winners, academicians from various countries, presidents of famous societies, editors-in-chief of journals, etc. have visited frequently, and academic exchanges have been extremely active. 17 people in this discipline have served as chief editors, associate editors, and 47 editorial board members in 39 international journals. Member of the Advisory Committee of the Joint Conference on Artificial Intelligence (IJCAI), the first chairman of the Program Committee of the International Conference on Artificial Intelligence (AAAI) outside the United States and Europe, the first chairman of the Program Committee of the IEEE Data Mining Conference from China, etc., initiated and held a series of international and domestic conferences in academic conferences, the faculties in the department have been invited to give keynote speeches at international academic conferences or specially invited conference reports for more than 50 times. The faculties have served as members of the award committee for many important international awards such as the International Artificial Intelligence Lifetime Achievement Award, and have gradually changed the role in international academic exchanges. Influence continues to increase.
With the rapid development of computer science and technology, the first-level discipline of software engineering and the first-level discipline of cyberspace security have been derived successively. The rapid development of artificial intelligence in recent years has made the connotation and extension of the discipline keep pace with the times. "National Program for Medium-to-Long-Term Scientific and Technological Development (2006-2020)" and "2006-2020" National Informatization Development Strategy clearly defined the importance of software technology and industry. And the report at the academician meeting of the two academies, and the State Council's "Development Plan for the New-Generation Artificial Intelligence" emphasized the importance of "artificial intelligence" technology and industry. The Computer Discipline of Nanjing University insists on facing the major needs of the country and is based on the frontier of the discipline. It has formed two major directions of software and intelligence through long-term solid work and has made great contributions to the cultivation of talents and scientific and technological progress in my country's "software" and "intelligence" industries. In March of this year, Nanjing University built the first "Artificial Intelligence College" among C9 universities relying on computer science, and actively responded to the Ministry of Education's "Artificial Intelligence Innovation Action Plan for Colleges and Universities" and made a contribution to increasing the cultivation of talents in the field of artificial intelligence in China. new contribution.
To further build a systematic and continuous research base for common basic issues in the computer field with important international influence, a high-level talent training base, and a high-tech independent innovation and application based in Nanjing University, in the initially formed Computer Discipline of Nanjing University basically, we will work towards solving scientific problems, striving for excellence, enhancing capabilities, optimizing structures, with excellent national key laboratories as the core hub, with the Department of Computer Science and Technology, the Department of Software and the Department of Artificial Intelligence as the three legs supporting the structure, with the network led by innovation for national needs and the international cooperation and exchange network oriented to international frontiers as two wings, with a diverse national base as the high-level basic talent training platform, with a national demonstration base for innovation and innovation and a provincial collaborative innovation center for the transformation and application of achievements, with a high-level innovative research group as the basic team. The Computer Discipline of Nanjing University has gone through 60 years, and it has been 40 years since the official establishment of the department.
